An awareness initiative for compassion, inclusion, and change.
Misunderstood Moments was created by two young advocates who saw how individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities were often misjudged, misunderstood not for who they are, but how they behave. Inspired by lived experiences and a desire to spark compassion, we created MM to give voice to those too often unheard and to invite the world to listen differently.
Our Mission
Misunderstood Moments raises awareness, inspires compassion, and drives actions by showcasing authentic stories from the intellectual and developmental disability community, paired with powerful art illustrations, to promote understanding, inclusion, and compassion in our communities.

Our Vision
A world where individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities are seen, heard, and understood without judgment. Their unique experiences are embraced with dignity and where society responds with empathy, respect, and meaningful support.

Our Ambassadors

Florence Qiang
I'm Florence Qiang from Skyline High School, and I co-founded Misunderstood Moments to help the world hear, see, and understand members of the IDD community. They experience the world in unique ways, but many people are unaware of their perspective on the world. This leads to their everyday moments being misinterpreted. Through this program, I hope to create a deeper understanding and foster a kinder, more inclusive community. Outside of this work, I like to play viola and hug my cats.

Felicia Qiang
Hi, my name is Felicia Qiang, and I’m a junior at Skyline High School. I am a co-founder of Misunderstood Moments, where I focus on visual communication: designing our website layout and creating flyers that share our mission. I introduced the idea of adding art illustrations to the program because I believe art is a powerful way to tell stories, foster empathy, and connect people in meaningful ways. Other than art, my hobbies include photography and violin.

Subin Park
Hi, I'm Subin, a student at Skyline High School. I joined Misunderstood Moments to help those who struggle with misjudgment. In my free time, I like to play Stardew Valley.

Srinika Kammili
Hello, my name is Srinika and I attend Skyline High School. I'm a part of Misunderstood Moments to help bridge the gap between the people who are misunderstood and others that misunderstood them. Other than being a part of lens of youth I perform classical indian dance and singing. I participate in school clubs such as robotics.
